One Time Shoe Shine

Above is another of the sketches I sent to the Ackland Art Museum Show. I had already sketched the shoeshine man while sitting having coffee nearby, with a good view of his chair (right). As I was leaving, this cool customer came and sat down to have his shoes polished up, and I just had to stand across the foyer and dash off another one, adding colour later from the first reference – I wasn’t sure if he could see me through his dark glasses. ‘One Time’ is an expression often used here for quick, efficient, sharp service offered for any number of enterprises, from washing your car to getting rid of household pests.
