Alleppey (Alapuzha) and the Backwaters

Alleppey or Alapuzha (many Indian cities have two names) is a city south from Fort Kochi in the coast of Kerala. The city is crossed by many water channels that go deep into the hinterlands. This channel network is called the backwaters.

Alleppey

A street from Alleppey close to my hostel. All the time sellers ride their bikes with their goods. On a side street some workers are taking down material from a truck. Watercolor on a Beta Stillman&Birn sketchbook.

Men in the Beach

Many men go to the beach at the sunset. The weather is more pleasant then to take a bath or have a walk. These guys wear a mundu, a piece of cloth wrapped on the waist. It looks very comfortable and appropriate to the hot weather. In the Ferry to Kotayam
