Last month I visited New York on what is always way-too-short a visit. Part of what I love about the city is that I know and love it from having lived there for a sort time. But I also love that I can still just be a tourist in the city: I go visit terribly touristy spots, draw iconic buildings, do things local would never do!
I visit (oh my goodness!) Times Square. If it weren’t so much fun to draw the madness, I doubt I’d want to be here, though: it is a zoo!
And then there’s Grand Central Station, another haven for drawing crowds.
The Natural History Museum, where I LOVE the dioramas with the Asian and African animals. The kids, though, they hang out in the dinosaur section the longest. So I sketch dinosaur bones. And people photographing dinosaur bones.
Then there’s all my favorite buildings.
The Flatiron and the Empire State, both of which I can sketch from practically the same spot.
And then there’s the more distant view of my favoritest one, the Chrysler Building.

And the miniature sailboats on the pond at Central Park.
The Grand Hall at the Metropolitan Museum, where I stood in line forever to buy tickets.
And a sketch from the High Line, which was packed with people the day I visited.

Lots more of my sketches, including some less touristy ones, here on flickr.
