I’ve been back from Southeast Asia for about a week, but like each Urban Sketchers Symposium I attend, it always takes a bit of time for everything to sink in. I am still pinching myself that I was there and it was an honour to be an instructor in such a fine group. We were made to feel so welcome by the local hosts, and from day one until the very end, the spirit and energy of the organizers was overwhelming. It’s always a pleasure to reconnect with friends but there’s also a joy in meeting new people, sketching with them and seeing their work. I was astounded every day by the sketchers not only from Singapore but Thailand and Indonesia too. Like many other instructors, I arrived a few days early to get to know my workshop location (the campus of Singapore Management University) but I also fell in love with the little streets of Kampong Glam where I sketched the narrow alleys and the Sultan Mosque. A big thanks to all the organizers and volunteers as well as everyone who photographed and videotaped the event for all to see.
