by Kumi Matsukawa from Tokyo, Japan
I had sketch session in Yanaka, Tokyo with Tina and her husband Greg who were visiting Tokyo from Seattle, USA, and some fellow Tokyo sketchers.
If there wasn’t their request, I had no idea of visiting a grave yard and sketching there, but thanks to their interest toward the place, I found myself enjoying discovering the place otherwise I would never had chance to know its peacefulness and quietness that is actually ideal to sketch without any obstruction.
This is Yanaka grave yard.
Tina is sketching the site including cherry trees.
Those natural shaped tombstones are much older ones and those square shaped ones are newer.
Maki is sketching an abandoned( and tamed) cat.
The signboard tells prohibition of leaving kittens there but the reality is there are many cats….
I also sketched one cat. He/she allowed me to sketch but to touch.

Yanaka Ginza alley.
After walked around Yanaka Ginza alley, we went to a restaurant, there, most of us had Cherry and Maccha parfait.

Then we headed to Tokyo Tower. At this time, another foreign visitor, Olve from Norway, joined us. He is a frequent Tokyo/Japan visitor and probably knows the must place more than I do.
We did quick night sketch.
Later, we went to a Kind of Japanese pub, ate Oden and Yakitori.
Hope they have great time for the rest of days in Japan.
Bellow, these are some of old post that I shared in Urban Sketchers Japan blog ( but not here.)Stories of sketch meeting with more visitors since last summer.
