[by Marion Rivolier in Paris, France]
In Paris, the weather is cold in winter, it is very difficult to draw outdoors. So we have to find some interesting spaces and events for painting.
Last month, the Cité de l’architecture et du patrimoine organized a very funny night : some dancers and acrobats were dancing in the museum, around the sculptures and architectural elements.
An acrobat and a puppeteer were playing a set in the wonderful rotunda with mural paintings : I tried to capture the bodies in motion. The men were telling a story with a little girl puppet. It was full of sensibility and poetry. Their movements were very fast and when the acrobat was rolling in the steel circle, it was incredible !
In these paintings, you can see the little puppet with her frayed shirt. It was so poetic ! I have captured several poses in the same drawing.
Some days later, I was in the Centre Pompidou and I discovered a workshop by the Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker’s Company : the public was invited to try some dancing movements. It was very interesting to see these men, women, kids trying to feel their body, stretch their arms, swing their hips, bend their legs. It was like a frozen moment in this frenetic world !
I like painting people in action, it is like a sporting event with a lot of focus and tension !
