[by Lis Watkins in London] I live close to Croydon, a big town on the southern
outskirts of London. The main station is
East Croydon and if you have ever travelled into London Victoria on the Gatwick
Express, you will have passed through it.
The town as a whole is undergoing much regeneration and the area
surrounding the station in particular is bristling with building work.
A week or so ago, I was given an opportunity by the team at
the Sussex Innovation Centre to look out from one of their windows on the 11th
floor of a nearby tower block and draw part of the scene down below. It was lovely to be able to get an overview
of the scene.

The next day I drew at street level from one side of the
development in the prettily named Cherry Orchard Road. This time it was a bit more hurried as the
weather is still quite chilly but I managed to include a cement lorry which was
unloading by the gate.

I’d sat in the same spot and drawn this view almost a year
before so it was interesting to compare the two drawings and see the progress
of the build.
Looking forward to going back and see how the work develops!
