My first trip to Vienna

[By Adebanji Alade in Vienna, Austria] I’m going to Vienna tomorrow and I thought it was great the last time I went in 2015. I was so obsessed with the trams and the architecture. The Opera House was my favourite!

I wasn’t there on a sketching trip but I was there to do some motivational workshops to the students at  The International School, Vienna. So after each workshop, I’ll go out and do some sketches. It was such a nice way to wind down, after talking almost none stop for 5 hours!

For the sketch above I used some brown TOMBOW wash pens and a brown Papermate 101 Ball point pen. This was my second sketch of a scene around the Opera House. I just couldn’t resist this magnificent piece of architecture!

Other sketches can be seen below, I can’t quite remember all the names of the places but they bring back some sweet memories of a great time last year and I’m looking forward to doing more this year, as I’m going for 3 days this week!

For the sketch above, I just fell in love with the trams and this was sketched while looking through a window of a cafe near the University of Wren.

As seen in the sketch above, I’m a great fan of trees, I simply love them. I used a charcoal wash to get the organic feel of the leaves.

The sketch above was very tricky, so each time the horses moved, I used the anatomy of another horse near by to complete areas that were missing.
