Village festival in Doel

[By Jeroen Janssen in Doel, Belgium] Once a year the boats are blessed in the little marina of Doel. There is an eucharist celebration, a procession and a big flea market. Although Doel has only 18 inhabitants but there were 20000 visitors this year.

I did’t sketch as much that day, for I had to play the violin in our band. But the day after, I made some sketches of the cleanup. Funny: when some days ago I was looking for a route description for my fellow musicians, who never went to Doel before, I found this image on google maps.

So, when I met the cleaning team this year on exactly the same spot, I asked them to pose for this picture.
