The light is so beautiful in Venice!

[by
Marion Rivolier in Venice, Italy]

I traveled in Venice, Italy, few weeks ago. In November, the light is beautiful even if it’s a very short time because the sun goes down at 4:30PM… What is particularly incredible is the color of the water, the green is so surprising. It goes into resonance with the orange, pink and red of the buildings of the city. It makes singing these warm colors.

The first day, I began the discovery of the 57th International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale by the Arsenale: some huge buildings full of artistic installations. A lot of  artworks were interesting, especially the artwork of Ernesto Neto (below), a big vegetable fiber net which encourage the meditation of the visitor.

The next day, I discovered the Pavilions of the Giardini. I liked the Corean and Japanese one. I spent some time to paint the large fiber glass sculpture by Sin Aurdal (below) who crosses the Scandinavian Pavilion.

At nightfall, I decided to paint a nocturne watercolor: a giant pair of hands reaching out of the Grand Canal and appearing to support the walls of the historic Ca’ Sagredo Hotel. This Lorenzo Quinn’s sculpture is amazing. Despite the cold and the night, I tried to capture this strangeness.

I would like to stay longer in this magic city, you have so many things to paint!
