Our fall immersion in Cádiz eventually drew to a close..

[Drawings by Sharon Frost.]

The bad part of attachment to other shores, cultures, languages is that you’re always homesick for somewhere else. There’s a yearning that’s called añoranza in Andalucía. Intense sense of place can be a wonderful thing, and there’s a bit of sadness as well..

Mixed media: coffee and manzanilla. Andalucían still life, with portable studio. Already I miss the light of the Bay of Cádiz: brilliant, with blue skies.
This seaside bar and music venue is a great showcase for local musicians, mostly flamenco, but this one is full fusion. Everybody sits outside under umbrellas. I’ve never even seen the bar itself.
Cádiz Museum of Fine Arts. Stunning Roman sculptures remind us how very old Cádiz is. My husband and I are fans of provincial museums and we visit this one often — it’s around the corner from our rental apartment on the Plaza de Mina, one of the prettiest plazas in the city.
