Urban Sketchers is seeking a dedicated and experienced individual to serve as Events Director on the USk Executive Board. This is a leadership role with significant impact on the organization’s global events and community engagement.

Role Summary
The Events Director is responsible for shaping the vision, strategy, and successful delivery of Urban Sketchers’ key global and regional events. Working closely with the Executive Board (EB), the Events Director ensures events align with the USk mission of fostering a global community through on-location sketching.
Core Responsibilities
- Strategic Planning
- Lead the development of a 3 – 5 year USk Events Strategy in collaboration with the Executive Board.
- Define clear processes, timelines, and implementation frameworks for future events.
- Governance and Reporting
- Participate in monthly virtual meetings, quarterly updates, and annual in-person Executive Board meetings.
- Submit a comprehensive quarterly Events Report and annual report
- Team Leadership
- Coordinate a volunteer team to support event delivery.
- Collaborate with EB Directors and project teams across departments.
- Community Engagement
- Maintain a strong and visible presence within the international USk community.
- Serve as an ambassador for the USk mission at events and online.
Key Projects
- International Urban Sketchers Symposium
- Serve as overall Project Lead for the Symposium.
- Coordinate planning and logistics to ensure a successful event.
- Chair regular planning meetings:
- Prepare agendas, distribute minutes, and track actions.
- Share updates with relevant departments and the EB.
- Collaborate with stakeholders and local organizing teams.
- Monitor and maintain the relevant social media channels associated with the Symposium e.g. Facebook Symposium Hub, Instagram USk Symposium
- Future Symposium
- Manage the full lifecycle regarding expressions of interest (EOIs)
- Announcements, communication, assessment, review, and planning
- Regional Events Grant Fund (REGF)
- Oversee the implementation, planning and delivery of the REGF program.
- Coordinate the work of the REGF team committee
- Collaborate with EB Directors in Communications, social media, and Finance to support grantees and promote activities.
Qualifications and Experience
- Project and Event Management
- Proven experience in planning, scheduling, budgeting, and risk assessment.
- Demonstrated success in delivering complex, multi-stakeholder events.
- Public Speaking & Representation
- Confident in live and virtual speaking engagements, including interviews, announcements, and presentations.
- Volunteer & Community Leadership
- Experience working with diverse teams and managing volunteers.
- Languages
- Fluency in English and proficiency in at least one additional language.
- Urban Sketchers Involvement
- Active Urban Sketcher with prior participation in a USk Symposium.
- Previous USk leadership experience is highly desirable.
- Strategic & Governance Skills
- Ability to think long-term and contribute to the strategic direction of USk.
- Familiarity with non-profit governance and collaborative decision-making.
This is a volunteer leadership position with global impact. We are looking for someone who is organized, collaborative, and committed to supporting the worldwide Urban Sketchers community through inspiring and well-executed events.
Time Commitment
This is a year-round volunteer leadership role. The workload varies throughout the year, with regular planning and collaboration, and a greater time commitment in the lead-up to the Urban Sketchers Symposium and other key events.
Applicants should be comfortable balancing the role alongside their personal and professional commitments.
The term for Events Director is two years, renewable up to four years.
