Sketching with Gary and Anandamayi

Gary Amaro, a correspondent Berkery, California visited Japan with his girlfriend Anandamayi. We met in Tokyo and my sketch friends TETSU and Junichi later joined us and we had sketch session. We met up in Ginza. ( I guess some of you who have visited Tokyo and had met me in Ginza must be giggling […]

Foliage is one of the most difficult theme

It is always intriguing source of inspiration. When I draw it, I feel as if I’m doing dictation of it’s story in a form of sketching. I try to understand and capture the story, the rhythm…. And I always feel as if I’m grasping sands… At Yakusi-ike Park Machida, Tokyo.

Hikichidai Park sketching

My watercolor class students and I had sketch outing to Hikichidai Park, Kanagawa prefecture twice this month. I brought different sketchbooks and different brand’s watercolor sets each time. I applied different technics. Am I too capricious? I’m still experimenting and I keep asking myself what is my style… I minimized my brush strokes and added […]

Visiting an old Sake brewery “Bukoh Shuzo” in Chichibu, Saitama

武甲酒造 (Bukoh Shuzo), a Sake brewery, has been producing sake for 260 years, they use one of the best water springs in its place and its building now is being registered tangible cultural property. Visitors can taste the water and even can bring back the water if they bring a container for free. The water is […]

The night view from Tokyo Sky Tree

I have been giving up going to the observation deck of Tokyo Sky Tree ever since it became a popular tourist destination until yesterday. I once tried to go last year but there were too many people waiting there and I lost my interest… But yesterday I had sketch session with Asuka who has visited […]

Time-killing sketches

I have to go and wait for a lot of time in a office to file a final income tax return every year. I didn’t forget to bring some papers and pencil this time.

What I had lately…

A motto: when you eat out, draw the things you have. A Mexican Burger and a glass of beer. Fried rice with soup. Ice cream and coffee. Caffè Latte and some chocolate.

Go back to square one

This year I’m thinking that I need to set a goal. I’ll go out with pencils and a notebook. I’ll practice and experiment more with pencils. I feel my pencil drawings are boring while I see pencil drawings from fellow sketchers very attractive. I am always inspired and the more I see them the more […]

This was our third Sketch Crawl in January: 38th WWSC

This time we went to a zoo in Nishikasai, Tokyo. I arrived there late and hadn’t much time to experiment something new. Initially, I had been planning to draw with pencil only or at least take more time on one drawing.. But I ended up producing way sketchy series of drawings with my same old […]

It worth reversing the images

I drew dancing people in the dark place again. But the resulting images are not so satisfying. The colors are dull, have no excitement… Then I modified them into negative images. By doing this, I think, the same drawing can gain somewhat more passionate feel. (the words: Corazon sin care, Prince Royce)

Random Ginza / Akasaka , Tokyo SketchCrawl

Although the next World Wide SketchCrawl is scheduled on the 19th January, we Tokyo sketchers already had random sketch crawl twice this month. One was held in Ginza and the other one was in Akasaka, Tokyo. We had participants from overseas: Steve from Tennessee, Richard from NY, Ali from Pakistan and Damian from Calgary. Each […]

Tokyo evening sketch

I made these two sketches in one hour before I headed for my first yearend party of this year. This one I drew on the street. It was very cold and the paint didn’t dry well. Then I found a cafe and had a seat where I was able to see almost same street view […]
