Tea and meat in Ouadane

A favourite drink in Mauritania is tea with a very complicated ritual and repeated through out the day and night. We spent almost two weeks in Ouadane in the Northern part of Mauritania and at the moment my body is craving all the teas that keep you in a high note. You can find more about tea ritual here.

Favourite food is meat, goat, lamb or camel and specially roasted over a charcoal fire, we had a little goat for New Year’s Eve.

Wadan is part of the World heritage and here you can see the ruins of the old village dating from the times of the caravans. The tower we see is the minaret of its old Mosque still operational and beside it the antena for the telephones. Wonder who thought it was a good idea to put this antena in the middle of the ancient village? Rumour goes around they’ll move it before the Festival.
