Open Call for USk Symposium Buenos Aires 2024 Correspondents

Dear Urban Sketchers,

You are invited to apply to become a correspondent for the 12th International Urban Sketchers Symposium in Buenos Aires, Argentina which will take place on October 9-12 2024. 

All correspondents will serve on the symposium correspondent team and receive an Open Pass, which allows access to all events, including workshops and demos, as spectators. 

This year we are recruiting one Local*, one International Correspondent and one Video Correspondent (either local or international). 

*Local Correspondents have to be current residents of Buenos Aires and will be relied upon for help and guidance to the city by other volunteers.  The Local correspondent will serve as a guide to the rest of the team by being familiar with the layout of Buenos Aires and local customs.

Responsibilities of the sketching correspondents include the following:

• Sketch the activities of the symposium daily during all four days, October, 9-12. These activities could include pre-symposium set-up, workshops, demos, lectures, sketch walks and informal meals with other sketchers. The ability to quickly capture people and their activities is essential. (Registration and participation in specific workshops and demos would not be possible.) 
• Bring attention to the fact that the Symposium is happening in Buenos Aires by establishing a sense of place through drawing.
• Post sketches and a brief written article each day on the global USk blog. A reportage-style of sketching and writing is encouraged. Correspondents are also encouraged to share on social media (giving priority to the website) using the symposium hashtag: #USkSymposium2024 #USkBuenosAires2024
• Have the technical ability and equipment to support the above task, such as a camera and laptop or other means to upload images and text.
• Able to write comfortably in English.
• Work with the other symposium correspondents and symposium committee as a team.

Special responsibilities of a Video Correspondent include the following: 

• Capture the activities of the symposium daily during all four days, October, 9-12. These activities could include pre-symposium set-up, workshops, demos, lectures, sketch walks and informal meals with other sketchers. The ability to quickly capture people and their activities is essential. (Registration and participation in specific workshops and demos would not be possible.) 
• Show the spirit of the symposium in video format, e.g. bonding between  participants, positive public interaction, informal meals, drink ‘n’ draw, opening and closing receptions.
• Post a daily video summary on USk’s Youtube channel. This will be reposted later by USk’s Social Media team on other channels. 
• Recreate “the feeling of being at the symposium” and showcase its unique location in Buenos Aires, Argentina for the USk community who will be watching from afar. 

The Video Correspondent will also require the following technical skills:

• Skills in video editing include selecting, cutting, adding transitions, music, text, and titles, and subtitles as needed.
• Produce content to be published on YouTube that can easily be adapted for use on other online platforms i.e. Facebook, Instagram 
• Have the technical equipment to support the above tasks, such as a phone with a video camera, video camera, microphone, and a laptop, as well as software for video editing and uploading.
• Fluency with  publishing video materials produced either edited or  ‘on the fly’ through Live Streams.

Visit our Google form here to download a copy of the Application template.  Complete and return your application using the form provided by midnight UTC 31 March 2024.  (All applications must be submitted in English).

Selection process

The Symposium planning team and Executive Board will evaluate applications based on how well candidates meet the stated requirements. Because Urban Sketchers is a worldwide organization, global diversity of the correspondents will also be considered. Selected candidates will be announced by 13 May 2024.

Queridos dibujantes urbanos,

Están invitados a participar en la convocatoria para ser corresponsal del 12º Simposio Internacional de Dibujantes Urbanos en Buenos Aires, Argentina, que tendrá lugar del 9 al 12 de octubre de 2024.

Todos los corresponsales formarán parte del equipo de corresponsales del Simposio y recibirán un Pase Abierto (Free Pass), que les habilitará el acceso a todos los eventos, incluidos talleres y demostraciones, en calidad de espectadores.

Este año estamos buscando un corresponsal local*, un corresponsal internacional** y un corresponsal de vídeo*** (ya sea local o internacional).

*Los corresponsales locales deberán ser residentes actuales de Buenos Aires para que puedan asistir a otros voluntarios y poder orientarse en la ciudad. El corresponsal local oficiará de guía
para el resto del equipo, debido a que contará con el conocimiento acerca de la ubicación de Buenos Aires, su información útil y las costumbres locales.

Las responsabilidades de los corresponsales de bocetos incluyen las siguientes tareas:

• Dibujar las actividades del Simposio diariamente durante los cuatro días, del 9 al 12 de octubre. Estas actividades podrían incluir la preparación previa al Simposio, talleres, demostraciones, conferencias, salidas de dibujo urbano (sketch walks) y comidas informales con otros dibujantes. La capacidad de capturar rápidamente a las personas y sus actividades es esencial. (No será posible registrarse ni participar en talleres y demostraciones específicas).
• Promover, a través del dibujo, registros que demuestren que el Simposio se realiza en Buenos Aires, dotando a esos dibujos de un sentido característico de la ciudad. recreando “la sensación de estar en el Simposio” para la comunidad de USk que lo observará desde lejos.
• Publicar bocetos y un breve artículo escrito cada día en el blog global de USk. Se prefiere que los bocetos y escritura sean en estilo de reportaje. También se anima a los corresponsales a compartir en las redes sociales (dando prioridad al sitio web) utilizando el hashtag del Simposio: #USkSymposium2024 #USkBuenosAires2024.
• Contar con la capacidad técnica y el equipo para realizar la tarea anterior, como una cámara, celular y una computadora portátil u otro medio para subir imágenes y texto.
• Tener un nivel de escritura adecuado en inglés.
• Trabajar en equipo con los demás corresponsales del Simposio y su comité.

Las responsabilidades especiales de un corresponsal de vídeo incluyen las siguientes tareas:

• Capturar las actividades del Simposio diariamente durante los cuatro días, del 9 al 12 de octubre. Estas actividades podrían incluir la preparación previa al Simposio, talleres, demostraciones, conferencias, salidas de dibujo urbano (sketch walks) y comidas informales con otros dibujantes. La habilidad de capturar rápidamente a las personas y sus actividades es esencial. (No será posible registrarse ni participar en talleres y demostraciones específicas).
• Mostrar el espíritu del Simposio en formato de vídeo, por ejemplo: los vínculos entre los participantes, interacciones positivas, comidas informales, salidas gastronómicas y de dibujo (drink ‘n’ draw), recepciones de apertura y clausura.
• Publicar un resumen en video diario en el canal de YouTube de USk. El equipo de redes sociales de USk volverá a publicar esto más adelante en otros canales.
• Recrear “la sensación de estar en el Simposio” y mostrar su ubicación única en Buenos Aires, Argentina, para la comunidad de USk que lo observará desde lejos.

El corresponsal de vídeo también requerirá las siguientes habilidades técnicas:

• Las habilidades en edición de video incluyen seleccionar, cortar, agregar transiciones, música, texto, títulos y subtítulos, según sea necesario.
• Producir contenido para publicar en YouTube que pueda adaptarse fácilmente para su uso en otras plataformas en línea, es decir, Facebook, Instagram, página web.
• Contar con el equipo técnico para realizar las tareas anteriores, como un teléfono con cámara de video, cámara de video, micrófono y una computadora portátil, así como software para edición y carga de videos.
• Fluidez en la publicación de materiales de video producidos, ya sea editados o espontáneos, a través de Transmisiones en Directo.

Visita nuestro formulario de Google aquí para descargar una copia de la plantilla de solicitud. Completa y envía tu solicitud utilizando el formulario proporcionado antes de la medianoche UTC del 31 de marzo de 2024. (Todas las solicitudes deben enviarse en inglés).

Proceso de selección

El equipo de planificación del Simposio y la Junta Ejecutiva evaluarán las solicitudes en función de qué tan bien los candidatos cumplen con los requisitos establecidos. Debido a que Urban Sketchers es una organización mundial, también se considerará la diversidad global de los corresponsales. Los candidatos seleccionados se anunciarán a finales de abril de 2024.
